Well you would be somewhat limited with an automatic because it probably won't last long if you make the engine more powerful.

I'm sensing a lot of pent up resentment in that post!!!!

Anywho, once crossbow comes around he'll tell you about upgrades.. So far I know there are several good intakes (CP-E for one, Injen to a leser extent), magnaflow has an exhaust that sounds pretty good, and I believe there is a short shifter kit floating around there somewhere. I know the short shifter is very easy to install.

I'm sure there are several I missed.

Anywho, good luck with the new 6. (As a side note, I wanted my girlfriend to get a MTX but she wouldn't.. believe me, I sympathize with ya man.)

Isn't this the best reason to have a manual? I mean, if they can't drive it, then don't have to worry about them driving it. (gtfo) Whose car is it going to be anyways an who is making the payments? If your the one doing this, do as you want, get what you want. However, if they are forking over $$$, ok, now you might be screwed...(boom08)

MTX is lighter, and has another 15 whp over the ATX.

A 6i MTX in the hands of a good driver is nearly as fast as a 6s ATX in the straights. (140 whp and 3045 lbs vs 155 whp and 3300 lbs).

The biggest limitation to the 6i ATX is its 4 gears. They are a rather huge limitation, and anyone whose driven both the 5 speeds and the 4 speed ATX will tell you thus.

Thus the car has enough pep to move, but is limited by available gearing. If you want "maximum" performance out of a 6i ATX, you'll want to run the smallest wheels possible, with lower profile tires to reduce your vehicles gearing to the point where its actually more aggressive.

Technically neither the 6i atx nor the 6i mtx are very strong transmissions, and both will require "care" if you ever plan on forced induction.

A 6i MTX will only hang with a 6s ATX, not the MTX. The 6i MTX's spec's are very close in performance to the 6s ATX, except the all important torque. From a roll their about equal, from a stop the 6i can get a jump on one, due to the fact you can set the rpm your launching at, while the 6s ATX will almost explode if you start doing power braking.

Don't expect to have a prayer against a 6s MTX in a straight line though, they have about a 20-30 whp advantage over a 6s ATX, and weigh almost 100 lbs less. In the twisty's though, the 6i MTX is extremely tossable, and definitely the most manuverable out of all the 6 lineup (including the MPS). Weight is everything in a corner, and the 6i MTX weighs a scant 3045 lbs, and even less if you go with a completely base model. With lightweight rims and some tweaking, you can get it down to around 2900 lbs. If you strip it completely, 2600 is within reach :).

The 6i MTX is the racing platform for all the 6's...be it the dragracing, or the scca pro world challenge racers. Not the 6s, nor the MPS 6.

was that 6i or 6s MTX that tore 3rd gear to S$!t?

i know TriPoint went through a few trannies last season due to 3rd gear issues. Also depending on the type of racing your looking for, Lentech got a core in for me a while back to begin work on the 6i ATX. I have their valvebodies in, and they can do anything you want to make it handle whatever you want. But just like getting the power out of the engine it cost a pretty penny to get it down to the ground. They can even do an LSD and/or a transbrake if your really into taking it to the strip.

I myself am thinling of getting a 6i for lower insurance cost and to slap on a turbo. I have a friend that wants to take over my lease because I walked out the door with a sick deal. So I wont be loosing a penny on getting a new car.

Mikey,

Make sure to call and check the quotes first. Btw whatever you do, DO NOT TELL YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY ABOUT THE TURBO. Doing so will result in some nasty things happening.

If you ask for mod insurance mention "safety" and "suspension/brakes" type mods. NEVER EVER mention power mods.

Btw there is a turbo kit for the 6s that should be done sometime in may...so you have to ask yourself whether you want 220-240 whp, or 280-300+ whp.

Mikey444

A 700 $ a year difference in insurance payment is worth it to me. And I feel it would be more worthy tubo'ing a lighter car thus I want to do absolutely no suspension work due to the horid road conditions we have here.

And be sure, the only thing my insurance company needs to know is that there insuring me for a 4 cyl. Mazda 6. Here, you dont even tell them where you go with you're car. They are quick to screw you.

I am not going to get another 5 door model, I am going to get a sedan. And sorry for disapointing you Da6 I am crossing over from lapis blue to silver, the thing is that they salt the raods soo much that there is a gazilion scratches by the end of the winter even though it gets polished anually, I h8 seeing all the scratches.

Note that it is not 100% sure I am switching care no matter how much my friend wants my lease and me wati a 4 cyl. If it those end up hapening it will be around september, October. No way in hell I am getting a 2006 year model, that thing is but ugly.

Mikey444

dont care for interior nore Navi, I dont like the new front end what so ever, cant live with it. I am not too sure about the colour but I think Silver is best. I love the blue though, but you guys, you got no frigin idea what the paint looks like right now. I cant wait till Monday till it gets polished, buffed whatever you want to call it.

Silver IS the best.

Mikey you do know most turbo kits cost around 4-5k (not including install) right? With install, your looking at 5 years+ of insurance cost difference. Aka you could just keep the 6s and not turbo the car, and you'd end up saving money over then next 5 years.

Remember that the 6i/3s isn't designed to go much past 220 whp...and individuals who have done so have ended up needing new transmissions. I don't doubt the block can handle it, its the drivetrain that can't.

Also remember that when you add a significant amount of power (40-50%) your going to need to firm up the suspension/engine bushings, otherwise the wheel hop will utterly destroy your car. Our car is single wheel front drive =/.

IMO its a bad idea to buy a NA car, and then say " I'll turbo it". Pick the car you want WITHOUT future mods in mind.

remember a few of us have gone thru engines and trannies under everyday fun. If you just so happen to get one of those engines or tranies good luck trying to get it replaced under warrenty :( I was dead set on running 3-5 psi untill I threw 2 pistons N/A under low load.

I'm aware of all this, maybe I'll just go with another V6 non hatch. We'll see, there is still quite a few months and surely lots of new stuff will pop-up on the market.

Da 6
04-06-2005, 11:19 PM
if you want to save insurance(Primary reason of purchase of a new car) pick another car than the 6 ;) Make shure it's not on the list of top stolen and you should be good.

Mikey444
04-07-2005, 10:51 PM
I wouldnt give a shit if someone stole my, I got a replacement value on my lease I get a brand new car free on the same lease :D

I always lease my cars because I use to be a car broker and know how to get the best deals and never have to keep them for more than 4 years.

Even if I do mods, can always bring it back to stock.

I got what they call...Gap insurance :( Either way I was saying that so you aren't constantly walking to the parkinglot to find the car gone again. It's more of a inconvience and hassle.

Is the 2006 Mazda 6i going to have a stronger tranny? I'm asking about the MTX. I know the ATX 6i will have a 5 speed automatic instead of a 4 speed.

crossbow
04-09-2005, 09:57 AM
The euro 2006 6i's get a 6spd MTX...not the US/Canada versions. As far as I'm aware, the transmission is identical to previous years (mtx), with maybe another gearing change as in 2005.

In the end I am going to get another MTX V6 non hatch, regular sedan in white cause is pimp. Now I have to see if I really hate the 2006, maybe I will end up with that. It has 5 less horsepower but 7 lb-ft more torque.

Mikey,

Actually the engine appears to be identical. The change is just a "revision" in the numbering. Aka its closer to what the car actually has. IMO its still more around 210/200..
