its kick ass....I just saw that on the other board YESTERDAY.....and I would LOVE to do that change.....but I am almost afraid to call the dealer and find out how much that stalk cost....
for the simple reason is it will cost me TWICE as much....as there is NO WAY I can do THAT mod to my P-5 and not the WIFES TOO!!! LOL

Cheaper you say?
Go to a wrecking yard and find a 99+ MPV.
You could probably offer $20 bucks for it.

damn, anybody have a hook up on Euro Parts. I wonder why the MPV one works for the P5 and not the sedan. must be the rear window wiper. I wonder if the North Amercian 626 stalk would work.

I heard that you can get the valve stems and the ash tray from the 99+ MPV also. Can this be true?!?!? If so I cant wait to do that mod!(loser) (thumb)

I did the mod...it works GREAT!!! I LOVE IT.....and for those of you with Sedans.....
I talked with Richard at MAZDASTUFF.COM and he was very interested....he is adding the MPV stalk to the website and it use...I told him about the european stalk for the sedans and he is looking into a source for them so he can add that part as well.....if you have a sedan...and are interested....give Richard a call at mazdastuff.com and see how he is coming along or if he has an update on getting the parts for you sedan drivers.

I see the stalk on mazdastuff.com for the 2003 MPV ($79.00), and just want to make sure it will work. I see the mention of 99+ MPV, but just want to double check and make sure the '03 MPV will work for the upgrade to my '03P5. I'm a new member, and love the forum; this is my first post!

Ok, I'm too lazy to reread all this stuff...but how much/how hard will it be to put these on an mp3?

03P5INVA, yes the 2003 MPV wiper stalk will fit right into the P5. Follow the link in the first post for how-to's
for MP3, you will need to find the wiper stalk from the EUROPEAN 626, US 626 stalk WILL NOT WORK.

This was my first modification and it was easy. Thanks to the guys who figured it out.
I purchased my MPV stack from a salvage yard I found on www.car-part.com . $37.10 shipped to my door.
If you want to find a list of yards that have the part available you are looking for a "column switch" under the parts catagory. It will then bring up a screen with the option of the column switches. Your looking for the right side wiper control switch. You may want to try a few different years 99 and up. For some reason 99 doesn't offer the selection of which switch your looking for but the 2001 did.
I bought mine from Army's in Lima, OH. They were great to work with, took my info, pulled the part and then called me back and described it because it didn't have the part number on it.
Hope someone finds this info useful.

Has anyone found the wiper stalk from the Euro 626 on the internet? I've had no success locating it yet. Any suggestions?
BTW, this is my first post. Great site, lots of excellent information and good ideas. I've been lurking for a week or two. I just bought a white 2003 ES loaded with everything but the autodim mirror and cargo accessories.

First off, welcome to the board.
Second, I wrote Corksport http://www.corksport.com and they said they could order it for me. Still waiting to hear back from them. I guess it takes a long time to get them in.

for the sedan..probably
you would have to find a wrecked 626 in Europe. then get the parts shipped.
for the p5, you can definetly get one from the junkyard, 99+ MPV

Wipers? or Control Stalk? If it is the stalk: I ordered mine from the dealer but try a salvage yard. To install it, it is very easy to do. Just take off the steering column cover and remove the old stalk and replace it with the new variable one. I know, this was short, but I am not sure what the question is.

It fits like a glove. I was a little nervous prying up the plastic around the steering column but after I got it off it went quite smoothly, about 20 mins. For anyone else planning to do this, a butter knife was a big help.
Now all I have to do is wait for it to rain and I can test it out. :)

It can take a while depending on if they have it in stock, I was one of the first to order it before they had it on their site and it took like 6 or 7 weeks I think, but the turn around should be much qucker now since its a regular stock item for them.

Thanks to everyone in the thread I just completed this mod. I have never done any automotive stuff so I was pretty tentative at doing this. Thanks to all the posts I got my part from MazdaStuff.com for $79ish and had the part installed with in 8 days of ordering. I did it last night and it took about 10 minutes to get the column housing off, 5 minutes to actually swap out the stalks, and 10 to get the housing back on. The ingition light was a pain in the rear, that's what took so long to get the whole thing back together. I wouldn't have even attempted this if everyone here had not been so great in posting the how-to. THANKS!!!!!!!!!

4 screws underneath the column, that's it.
3 Screws.
Thought I'd correct this so the person that does this is not looking for 4 screws.(shady)

I think I bought the last one on Monday....They are shipping it to me, but when I went back to the site to check it out again, I couldn't find it either....You snooze you lose...You should just contact them...They are probably on back order or something... (flame)

Try looking at 2003 MPV. I find the wiper stalk from there.

Well, I didnt have much luck locating the switch. I bcalled car-parts and they refered me to website. The website doesnt list wiper switch, I told him. Then I called corkparts and spoke to Derrick, He wasnt much help. Last I called mazdaStuff, they quoted me a price of 144.00. I said thanks. Can anyone give someplace that I can get a wiper switch? Thanks

I just did this mod, and the timing is great with all the rain we are getting here. Just an FYI, my stalk is from a 2001 Escape, and is completely compatible.

I need to get one for my MP3.. too bad the sedan ones are different than the P5.
Can anyone get the Euro 626 stalk in the US (besides CorkSport.. they're kinda expensive)?

The MPV/Tribute/Escape stalks will work on the sedan. Ty gave his to Jeg and it worked fine. It will give you the option of adding a mad tyte JDM rear wiper to the sedan in the future. (stash)

yup, tribute stalk WILL work in the sedan
Just have an extra "function" that doesn't do anything since there aren't any connectors for it in the sedan steering column

you remove the 3 screws from the column, feel below and you'll feel the 3 holes
then pop the two halves off
pull down the bottom half and remove the 2 little phillips screws holding in the wiper stalk in place
then unplug, then , plug in the new stalk and reverse disassemble

Did anybody come up with the year range of MPV/Tribute/Escape that works for this? I want to get this done this week.

i would guess any year the pro5 was made for sure, so look for an 01-03 Tribute, Escape, or MPV
