Just wanted to let you guys know that after having a hard time at finding a good washable rubber cargo mat for the back area of our Mazda 5 my wife and I finally just contacted a company to send us material. This stuff is awesome. We fashioned a pattern and made our own. We have enough material to make probably another 10 of them.. If any of you are interesting in purchasing one from us, let me know. The cost is $38.99 shipped to anywhere in the U.S. (probably just a little more to Canada). We couldn't be happier with the way it turned out for us. (Pics below)
I also can have the pet gate/barrier dropped shipped to your house direct from the manufacturer for $50.00. We had a hard time finding pet gates that were made to fit a smaller car like the 5. Most are made for larger SUV's and Minivans. Anyways.. If your interested you can paypal me with the funds and your address, or if you have any questions at jimshipley@gmail.com

interesting...

what's on the other side of the rubber mat??? do they have short soft rubber spikes that help keep it from moving around or lifting from the corners and edges?

I like the way the oem soft liner works so that you can keep one chair up and the other chair down in the rear seat ... now if there was a way to have that functionality with this mat in both rows... that would be cool... i guess just cutting slits where the seats fold and finding away to get them to stick to the back of the seats while in the upright position would work...

I bought something similar but everytime I store it away when not in use (folded or rolled up) it seems to keep the shape of the folds or roll up and never sits flat again when I need to use it (it remembers its folded or rolled up shape)...
does it usually keep its original shape?

Roll it up with the top surface facing out. That way when you unroll it it will lay flat.

actually i wasn't really thinking but i just kept rolling it the way it was when I first bought it... then i eventually wanted to use it with while the 3rd row seats were up... so rather than rolling it up and not using it... i folded it in away that it would fit flat in the rear (seats up)... but when i put the seats back down and unfolded the mat it keeps the fold and doesnt sit flat anymore...

oh well...

I would definitely combine shipping to canada if you wanted 2 of them.. unfortunately I don't have the cut out shape for the mazda 3, so i don't know what shape to make it. I could send you a cut out for the mazda 5 and and uncut one for the mazda 3. Once you got it, you'd just need to use a razor to finish the proper trim. I just need the postal code in canada to ship it to and I'll figure out the cost to ship them combined. let me know.. you can email me directly at jimshipley@gmail.com

da1nonly,
the other surface is flat. i made sure i got one that was flat because i didn't want any sharp points messing up my cloth. This mat doesn't slide around because it's custom fit around the corners and bumps on the sides, which makes it stay in place when the seats are, with the seats up is another matter, however. I haven't tried that yet, but you would definitely need something to keep it up.. some type of fastener.. I'll have to research that some more. One thing that is very nice about this mat is that it is pliable and won't retain the rolled up shape, so once i unroll it, I can just put it in place and it will stay flat :) you can email me directly if you have any more questions if you'd like. Either way I keep up with this forum weekly for all my mazda 5 needs, hehe.

I like!

Maybe some industrial strength Velco (the hard side) placed on the back out stop it from sliding and help keep any edges down.

I take this stuff is easy to cut? It really needs to be split down the middle.

Yes, fairly easy to cut with scissors or a straight blade. I think your idea would work very well!

Sounds like you're just being a middle man trying to make some money without being a part of this community, and without paying to be a vendor.

I'm just trying to cover the costs of the extra material I have, when it's gone it's gone. If people are interested, cool. If not, no biggie. It's been working very well for me, however. (burnout)
