I was just going throught the specs to check the spring rates on the stock springs but the info was not there.....as I was going through all the specs, I came across the "Safety and Security" section and noticed that the GT's come with the Theft-Deterrent Security System, but not the Sport models. Does anyone know exactly what that security system is? I mean I have the keless entry remote and I can lock my car and hear the horn sound off when I press it twice. My thought was that my car had activated the alarm, but I suppose it's just an indicator that my car is just "locked".

Can any of the GT owners please relay exactly how the Theft-Deterrent Security System is different from what we all have on our Sports?(yes)

probably the blinking red light when you activate the alarm

I wonder if there's something that's simply not hooked up that I can hook up to activate it.....wishful thinking....I know...

Good question. I have the sport, and it has the red locked car light. It blinks when the car is locked.

Yeah, that's all I get too....I wonder if the GT owner's get the same blinking light and whether their car sounds off if the handle is pulled or if it has some kind of sensor to warn if someone is near the car, or anything else....

See, I don't even know if it's an actual "alarm" that's been activated....I wonder if it's just a dummy light to give the sense to potential intruders that the car has an alarm....

A panic button? Yes, we have one of those

It appears so far, that none of the GT users know how their Theft-Deterrent Security System is unique from the one that the Sport is Lacking. If all that really is, is just a panic button, then Mazda goofed and added it to the Sports as well and forgot to note that on the specs ....we may never know....

As i understand it the GT has an alarm and we (sport) doesnt. We get a remote fey fob to lock/unlock and panic, thats all. If someone smashes our windows nothing happens except for lots of broken glass. With the GT obviously the alarm goes off.

Someone correct me if i'm wrong.

Try this Discharmingman,

Get into your car, lock it. Wait about 15 seconds, then open your door by manually unlocking your door. Open it, if your car sounds it's "panic" alarm, then you have the Anti-Theft deterrent system working in your car. It works on mine, so I guess it's similar to an aftermarket alarm system for the GT. Only difference is, you don't get all those other sirens with the stock stuff. lol

Darn! Tried it and nothing happened! All this time i had a false sense of security when in reality all I had was nothing...haha.....oh man....

So you say you have the Sport model and if you open it from the inside after locking it the alarm goes off?

No, I have the GT. (breakn) Don't be too alarmed(pun intended), but all it does is sound the panic alarm..nothing too uber. I'd prefer an aftermarket system instead, like viper, or clifford. just me though.

Thats a poor excuse for an alarm, sounds like it basically goes off when an electric current is pulled while activated. Someone can smash your windows and help themselves to what ever is inside and you wont hear a thing providing they dont open the door. I would be pissed if this was a reason i bought a GT.

Well what did you expect. It is a THEFT deterrent system is not an alarm system.

Sounds like the mystery is solved, but here's what I've heard...

Pretty much the alar... I mean theft deterrent system will go off if the doors are locked and any door is opened (including the hatch, don't know about the hood).

So apparently a burglar could break the window, climb in, and drive the car away without the alarm going off.

On a side note: I accidentally pressed the panic button a couple nights ago
I put the key in the ignition to stop it, but it didn't
I turned the key to ACC or ON (not sure if there's 2 positions or not), it didn't turn off
I started the car, it didn't turn off

I was forced to press the unlock button to deactivate it, despite what the manual says.

If you bought a car because of it's theft deterent system you have a problem.

This won't work on the 2008 Sport & GT's (don't know about the 2007's) without an original 'chipped' key... 'cause they also have an oem engine immobilizer system installed... can't drive the car away by hot-wiring or pulling the keylock...

I think what he meant was, he could have gotten the Sport model instead and have an aftermarket alarm installed....

It appears that one can get a more effective alarm elsewhere than by going with the factory one.

The Anti-Theft deterrant system is better than nothing until you can get something better. Since its offered with the GT, I'll take it, but everyone knows, there is almost always something better in the aftermarket side of the house.

iv read somewhere the GT's myself included in that the alarm is not some factory POS it is a real alarm system integrated into the system like a viper sys. the blinking red light is the imobalizer key thing that dosnt let car runn for longer then a couple secnds if you dont have the key with the right transister in it. and with the sport you could have gotten the same alarm as we have if you would have asked for it from the dealer my friend has a regular 3 with the alarm. ow yeha the hood is included in the alarm function.

Hood/Trunk/Doors, and just looking at it will set the alarm off... ok, maybe not looking at it, but you get the idea.

On another note: It'd have been nice to get a 2-way transmitter/reciever with the GT system similar to that of the viper/clifford alarm system if that were the case..lol
