i notice all the smoking issues described are regarding '07 models. of course there is mention of a different part number for the turbos, indicating possibly some sort of change on Mazda's end.

is anyone having this issue on the '08's? i am just curious; i dont even have mine here yet, but while reading up i've come to learn of these types of issues.

None here (smoking) It seems it appears on early production models? Mine was manufactured 09/07

No smoke for me (not from my car at least (sssh)) I bought my '08 MS3 Sept 31, not sure of the manufacture date, never checked it.

well, i guess i should have been more specific because the problems pop up w/ the old ones when downpipes are changed. so, i guess i am curious if anyone with downpipes on their 08 has had any smoke issues.

i've read some pretty funny explanations on this board about why the car would smoke, but the bottom line is as far as i can see it should be nothing other than a turbo defect considering the minimal changes that are really taking place.

to clear the air i don't have mine yet, it's due to arrive 1/2, however i have been ordering some parts in preparation for post break-in modifications.

My car was manufactured 04/07. I only get white smoke when it's cold out and I coldstart the car. Once the car is warmed up including the cat, no issues whatsoever.

white smoke when its cold out?

could it be 'steam' such as in this video. this was my built high CR honda in the winter with winter tires and all. check the exhaust...

Yes its condensation from the exhaust steaming and heating up causing the smoke. I have had my seals checked and they came out fine with no issues. I think I've been pretty lucky so far.

Got mine early November... Not sure of the build date.. I'd assume mid-07. No smoke.

indeed! yeah i scanned that thread and glossed over some other info and seemed to see the trend that it's all part of the '07 build lot that has this. i wanted to see if i could find atleast 1 '08 with this issue before i start adding breathing parts to mine and i've yet to hear about any.

i think the bad batch theory is the most plausible here for sure!

There has been at least two 2008s with smoking issues...
Most of them have been 2007 though.

09/07 and smoke galore............. only right at 7500 miles. Put on a dp if you want to know if it smokes or not.........cat hides it.

So this must be a 2008. Did you or are you planning on taking it to the dealer to see if it is covered under warranty?

If memory serves me, it's the very early-built 2008s that may see this. The problem has gone away on the later 2008s and 2008.5s.
