Well I plan on buying myself a little birthday present when my 25th rolls around next May...a brand new Mazda3. I know exactly what options I want, just have to save up for the down payment. So who else is seriously thinking about buying one.

I just bought a P5 August 2002, so I've had my car for only 1 year, but man that 3 looks hot as hell...

MY birthday is in may as well, the 3rd...maybe it's destiny calling my bday to the 3 on the 3rd?

Are you going sedan or hatch? I much prefer the sedan with the sport kit...

I'm getting it (which shouldn't surprise those who have been reading my posts).

Canadian-spec Mazda3 GT sedan with auto in Titanium Gray. Will get several accessories, one of which will be the sport grille.

Ordering around Dec-Jan timeframe for 1st week April '04 delivery.

My birthday is not in may, but I will get the MZ3 Hatch with winning blue color, full equipped in april 2004 in Canada! It will probably cost around 30k$ total with tax, rate. But of course, to be sure that I made the good choice, I will try it first
(at that price You can get a base MZ6, Accord, TSX, Celica...altough I really prefer the Mazda approach with the new MZ3)

gib - you like the look of the Hatch?

wongpres - GT is nice, but sport grille is a must

CruzinAltitude - I've dumped about 1500$C on the car in mods and it's not much faster or handle that much better than stock. Sure it looks good and handles like crazy, but isn't the Mazda 3 2.4L engine rated at 170 HP or something?

If some people can get 200HP out of our 2L 130HP engines, let's see now, that's a 70HP increase. Imagine the 3 with a a huge turbo pushin' upwards of 250HP, maybe more...add to this that the engine has more displacement with 2.4L, so more power can probably be produced...that's STI/EVO territory...

Did I forget to mention that you could blow away little yellow skittles with that setup (SRT4, much respect, but I'm a mazda guy)?

Isn't the top of the line engine in the 3 a 2.3L not 2.4. No hating meant just wondering.

3form - can't remember, but point is that it's a little more than a 2.0L

haig I presently own the Pro sedanLX, but I'm looking for a Hatchback (practicality). In the Market now there is no Hatch as superb has the MZ3sport (Hyundai, civic, golf....Yawn). I am looking for a CAR not a SUV (pilot, tribute, crv...) nor a mini-suv (vibe/matrix, Aerio...single beam suspension in the rear), nor a station-wagon (jetta, the coming lancer sportback...to soccer mom vehicles). And mostly, they all look laim to me, not counting the fun to drive criteria.

Sorry for the people criticising the looks of the MZ3hatch because it looks like a Vibe/matrix. IMHO, the MZ3sport is a CAR, not a "truck" (not as tall, more fluid lines). The current style trend (murano, FX45, Lexus, Infiniti crossovers) is so cool. I just love it. The MZ3 is following that trend. So therefore, I'm sure my CAR MZ3sport will be just as fun to drive has it is practical and a beautiful piece of art to look at. Those critics (yea, yea, everyone is a critic) might even rethink their position once they see it in "person". And yes I love that winning blue color.

Gib. I couldn't agree more. Why do people have to hate on the upcmoning Mazda 3 design. I think the sedan and hatch are beautiful .

gib and 3forme - I ain't haiting the design of the upcoming 3...what I'm saying is that if I had the choice to make, IMHO, I think the sedan looks better than the hatch...also, I would buy the hatch in a blink of an eye over the others mentionned...

I also like the sedan a little bit better, plus it will be a bit less money. We knew you weren't hating.

I did not think Haig disliked the MZ3 sport, I was referring to many comments from other mazda forums users. Some comments where verry harsh.

I want to get myself a decent car when I finish university next year and since I already LOVE the Protege we have, the Mazda3 seems like the logical next step. As long as it keeps its Zoom-Zoom, I wanna see the final packages and prices and I'll be ready - max 12mths.

After test driving a Mazda3 S I was quite impressed, and would have to say it's a serious contender.

That said, whether I want one now or not I'll have to wait about a year before I can afford one, and if saving money is something you're interested in, it would be well for all of you guys to wait as well!

This isn't intended to talk people out of something they're interested in, but when a new car is released it always carries a premium price tag. Numbers are limited in terms of availability, there's increased excitement over something brand new-- All of these factors make for dealers demanding (and getting) top dollar; even MSRP (which I'd never pay for a car, ever).

Then there's also the slightly higher risk of problems from a first run car, and we don't yet know how reliable it will be because not enough time has elapsed to secure such data. That takes time. I do expect the Mazda3 to be reasonably reliable, but there's no way to know for sure until we've seen it out in the real world. I beleive Ford's hand in its design bears caution, that said.

So except for the novelty of being one of the first to own such a car, it makes financial and practical sense to wait, that's all I'm saying.

Anyway, if in a year's time I decide to go for a 3, I expect I'll be able to get one for around $4000 less (U.S.) than what people are having to pay today. That's money for mods... or any number of other things!
