This might belong in off-topic.
I was considering buying the Vibe/Matrix 'cause I knew that a supercharger would be coming out. Well here it is, and boy am I glad I got a 2003 P5 instead.

Summary: 7.5 psi with 166hp @ 6800rpm and 145 lb.-ft. @ 4000 RPM, $2640 (includes injectors and ECU flash). By the way, these are not power ratings at the wheels, it's all at the crank!!

Just my two cent, but when I was looking at the Matrix, the XRS (What ever) that had the variable timing system was making like 180 horsepower, is the supercharger only available to the lower grade models?

the supercharger is for the 130 hp Corolla engines in the lower model Vibes/Matrices only. Wish they would have made something for the 180 hp Celica engine in the GT/XRS

seeing as how the msp got from 140-170hp, this is the same thing, i think. well, minus the niceness of the protege line. most manufacturer performance parts are very conservatively tuned.

IMO, It'd be fun to swap the 180hp Celica GTS motor into a Matrix. :)
THEN supercharge THAT one.
What turned me off from EITHER car is, to get the AWD model, you have to take the slow engine, AND ATX. :(
Side note:
Those numbers are 8hp MORE, and 15ft-lbs LESS than my Probe GT had AT THE WHEELS - with only a CAI and GReddy catback! :P

The standard engine has 10:1 compression whereas the xrs engine has 11.5:1. You ask why they don't supercharge the higher compression engine!? You wouldn't be able to run much psi before you detonated...

so?
11.5:1 IS a boostable CR, with the right systems in place. I can promise you, 5psi on an 11.5:1 CR engine, is MUCH better than 6 or 7 psi on a 10:1 CR engine.
