hey guys, just wondering if any of us have had an issues with their sp20 (or any 3rd gen astina or protege for that matter) and have had to take their car back to the dealer to get it fixed???

i'm going to try and take my car to the dealer on the 19th (next rdo from work) and get them to fix the clutch. there's a technical service bulletin in america about it (doesnt wanna grip when cold and shutters a lot) so hopefully that'll apply here too. i'll go in with lots of info to get them to cough up with a new clutch for me.....this is the linkie to the tsb i'm talking about : Clutch TSB (http://web2.airmail.net/theman/protegefaq/tsb/mt000003848.html)

Good luck they can be pricks at times.
But i had no problem with my seat it started a pull in the stitching they replaced the whole seat which was great as i had stained it.

I know I'm not down there, but I brought mine in for the same thing, they replaced clutch, pressure plate, and another part or two (can't remember) with "updated parts". Since then, good as new, not problems.
Best of luck.

i go through grand prix madza at aspley. i rang them up this morning and said i'd like to book my car in for warranty work. i then went on to say my car is suffering from the clutch chatter and i would like it fixed as i know there is a technical service bulletin on it. the guy was totally fine about it. he said yeah bring it in etc. i'm taking it in on the 19th. i was very happy.

but the thing i'm most happy about - new clutch and flywheel. i wont need to get a new clutch for another 2 years (unless i NEED it because of power)

let me know how you go with it. ask them when you're there if there are any other technical service bulletins for our car. i'm going to do the same when i take my car in. i guess if i show i'm knowledgeable they might return the favour....

OK all

got my SP20 back after oldmac mazda had it for 2 days cause they had to see if the clutch faulted when cold

and guess

No fault found

I took the tech service bulitun to show them and all they could say is it isnt for australian cars

I just responded with a "arent all mazdas made in japan"
but they still didnt change it so if anybody else comes up with any other ideas

I am chasing down a australian tech service buliten of this fault

PS Oldmac Mazda are a bunch of A**holes

man kurt that sucks!

i'll let you know how i go next wednesday, but failing that, a family friend of mine has a mechanical shop - he and his business partner used to both work at grand prix mazda....maybe they know where to find tsb's for the aussie cars...

might be worth you while speaking to another dealer as well....you never know

Snert
11-11-2003, 04:45 AM
Well
I know a guy that knows a guy that works on mazdas and apparently on the gold coast there has been alot of very simalar problems repaired down there

hence I think the oldmac line of there are no problems in not coming from mazda which means if we get these fixed theres gonna be major dealer complaints going on

twilightprotege
11-11-2003, 04:52 AM
yeah sounds like it's a dealer issue. the yanks are getting the same responses from some dealers...

try speaking to other dealers tomorrow. the grand prix guy i spoke to sounded like he knew what i was talking about....and the fact that i said "order the new flywheel, clutch disc and clutch cover so i'm not without my car for more than one day" hehehe

Andrew

any news on the TSB or clutch change on your service ?

Kurt

twilightprotege
11-19-2003, 04:35 AM
yep i just got online to tell about it.

they are fixing it. althought i wont get my car back until tomorrow arvo (because they had to order parts - not happy since i told them what parts to order). but they are fixing it so i'm a very happy chappy! anyway, have you had a chance to speak to other mazda dealers about it?

Snert
11-19-2003, 05:36 AM
Spoke to a Mazda tech that wishes not to be named and said he drives an astina sp20 and it had the fault and was fixed and has done a few cars with this problem

but am trying to get as much reported cases to take to get it fixed

did that mention specific problem or detals on repair docs or anything

twilightprotege
11-19-2003, 05:45 AM
i cant remember, but do you have the BJ II SP20 (old tail lights) or the BJ II-J48 SP20 (round tails)?

they didnt mention any specific TSB or anything, but they didnt say much to me because i think i sorta scared them when i was saying "i know there's a TSB on this, so you'll need to order in this this and this to fix it in 1 day". i dont think they like people who know more than them...and i bet my car gave them a fright when they started it up!!! hehehehe

Snert
11-19-2003, 05:51 AM
i think i got the BJ II SP20 (old tail lights)
them the ones same as the pics on your sig pic

twilightprotege
11-19-2003, 05:57 AM
I thought that's what you had. i thought i better just double check because the BJ II has the issues, the BJ II J48 had them fixed from the factory.

when i pick up my car tomorrow arvo, they should give me a print out of work done just like it was a service. i will be more than happy to give you a copy. that way you can take it to oldmac, say a mate got it fixed under warranty and here's the proof, now fix it you pricks!

btw - got the injen cai yet?

Snert
11-19-2003, 06:01 AM
nah no sight of the injen yet but am chasing up shipping details so i can see if it is stuck in customs

where abouts do ya get the round lights from ? & are they expensive ?

yeah service reports would be great cause I am skiping over oldmac mazda and going stright to mazda australia to ask them to explain what is going on

twilightprotege
11-19-2003, 06:07 AM
they are what you see on brand new SP20s - the ones the yanks got from day 1. the tail light section is all red and has two clear circles near the boot, one for the blinker, one for the reserve light. we have the blinker and the reverse going in a horizontal line about 1/3rd of the way up the light

which way was the injen shipped? us postal service (usps)?

Snert
11-19-2003, 06:11 AM
shipped via air mail
all i got so far is shipped before the 11th

what problems do the old tail lights have ?

twilightprotege
11-19-2003, 06:16 AM
none at all...but the yanks love them because they never got them. i prefer the old style lights myself.

shipped before the 11th...hmmm...i'm assuming when you say air mail, that means usps airmail parcel post

Snert

i would have to assume that also, about how long should that take ?

twilightprotege
11-19-2003, 06:20 AM
things i've had sent airmail parcel post before have taken closer to 15 working days

Tunnel_Rat
11-19-2003, 08:30 AM
Yep me to last parcel from texas was 12 days airmail pp or had a set of lights in 4 days UPS from cali.
Twilight i am still in shock they are going to fix it shit! I will wait till you pick it up before i say more (still do not trust them yet).

we send all our stuff from our US suppliers via fedex international express.... 2-3 business working days, and suprisingly inexpensive when you weigh up the fact a customer can order a part and its in before the weeks out

twilightprotege
11-19-2003, 05:29 PM
well hopefully i'll be able to post tonight that car is back and all is good.

i have to admit with the postage from america, i prefer usps mainly because it's cheaper. usps is even a rip job. we can sent something to america and get there in 3 business days through aussie post for the same price as 15 business days from america through usps.

well got my car back, all is well. clutch it all fixed up. feels a little lighter than before and it grabs slightly further out, but i can adjust that.

now here's the issue for you kurt. as soon as i walked in, all the guys walked out and left a friggen hopeless 50yo woman there.

anyway, i asked for a receipt. we dont have it now, but you can pick it up when you have your next service. "i dont get my car serviced here", reply...well it'll take 6 weeks to arrange. "please post it to me" we'll see what we can do. "why will it take 6 weeks", because it's a warranty issue and mazda have to approve it before it becomes a invoice. "cant i have a copy of that PRINTED paper in front of you", no sorry. "go and get farked"...ok maybe i didnt say that, but i should have. the farkers washed my car. that had to be the worst wash job in history. the crap they left on the car (dried water) made it looks like scratches. not happy jan! i just spent a good 14 hours washing, clay detailing and polishing the damn car!!!

well i now have to wash my car tomorrow after work. friggen hopeless pricks. sorry i couldnt be of more help kurt, but tell oldmac about me. hell i dont mind if you mention me. see how you go
