twilightprotege
12-31-2003, 02:02 AM
ok boys. we're looking at around $190aud total (inc shipping etc). i'm pretty sure it'll be under $200aud. kurt the exhaust hangers will be around $35 extra. the price of the bushings is confirmed at this stage, still waiting to confirm the shifter price...but here's hoping. so that's looking good for everyone?
was anyone else wanting the exhaust hangers?
twilightprotege
12-31-2003, 02:05 AM
i'll lock in the bushings eddie ;)
i'll let the guy know we definately want to go through him (he was a bit cheaper)

yeah works out pretty good arden...esp when you think if we all did this individually it would set us back close to $300aud...

ahb11m
12-31-2003, 09:16 PM
ok i'm in... cash won't see you until next mondayish.... hmm or should i pay my last speeding fine? ... where to spend $200.... so hard to choose....
ok lock it in eddie, i'm on for it
i'm using my new christmas present to install... someone was nice enough to (finally) get me a trolley jack, and some equally good jack stands...
twilightprotege
12-31-2003, 09:20 PM
yep that's cool james, monday will be sweet.
ahb11m
12-31-2003, 09:42 PM
ok, and for delivery before nats !? is them gonna be send on air??
twilightprotege
12-31-2003, 09:57 PM
maybe before nats at the best...but i'm leaning towards no. i am getting them sent here via air (why shipping was so much), and that'll be 6-10 working days i think, then 2 days to you...
all depends on how quickly everyone pays as well. i'm not going to pay the suppliers before all payment is received like i did with the oil caps because we're talking about a lot more money this time
Tunnel_Rat
12-31-2003, 10:12 PM

Guys,
i just went to the aussie customs site and found the following info:
_________________________________________________
What advice does Customs offer to people buying over the internet?
Customs advises people purchasing goods over the internet to be aware that when those goods arrive in Australia they will be subject to Customs controls.
In some cases this means:
duty and GST may be payable;
it may be a prohibited import and require a permit before it is allowed into the country; or
it may be a prohibited import and not allowed into the country under any circumstance and will be seized by Customs for destruction
Customs would not collect duty and/or GST where:
the value of the goods does not exceed $1000 for goods imported by post or $250 for goods imported air/sea cargo, other than by post; and the Customs duty and/or GST liability of the goods does not exceed $50.
This concession does not apply to:
tobacco, tobacco products or alcoholic beverages;
goods imported by a passenger arriving in Australia from overseas;
goods imported by a member of the crew of a ship or aircraft arriving from overseas; or goods forming part of a bulk order.
http://www.customs.gov.au/site/text_only.cfm?area_id=5&nav_id=1307
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Reading this, it seems we gotta pay duties n gst???? :'(
Can anyone give confirmation this is not case??
Dont wanna be a party pooper but i just dont wanna be forking out extra dosh when it finally gets here...Im sure everyone feels the same
twilightprotege
12-31-2003, 11:32 PM
if it comes in and they are wanting me to pay duties etc, i'll see if there is any way we can get around it etc...fingers crossed!
twilightprotege
12-31-2003, 11:36 PM
i'm hopefully that we wont have to pay duties and gst because i never have before. I ordered $900usd of stuff previously when the aussie dollar was only 55us cents and i didnt pay a cent in duties.
worst case senario is we'll have to pay duties and gst. it would still work out cheaper than importing it individually,=.
sabrelli
12-31-2003, 11:39 PM
i spose if we do get hit, would be around $40-50 extra. guess it aint that much
ahb11m
01-01-2004, 12:15 AM
well i thihkn the duties, plus gst should only jack it up to $35... so should work out square in the end... andy, just let us know if your demanded that when its landed at yours
twilightprotege
01-01-2004, 12:18 AM
yeah as soon as i get them i'll let you all know either way

twilightprotege
01-02-2004, 07:30 PM
all - just had word from the bushings supplier...if we can find another person and make the list 10, the bushings each would be $1.50usd cheaper...i might even be able to see if the shifter supplier can do it cheaper as well.

nahh the biggest surprise is that we didn't have half of the gb pull out!

only had 1 pull out, so that's really good. atleast we still ended up with 10 so we get the better price...
SFC01v2
01-09-2004, 11:30 PM
How long did the oil caps take to ship once they were despatched? I am taking the estimate from here rather than those of your cam gears... :)
twilightprotege
01-09-2004, 11:40 PM
they were sent on the 23rd of dec - got them 31st jan. but that was from canada.
my cam gears were apparently sent the same way i want the shifter stuff to come...they were sent on the 21st of dec (apparently)...still havent arived....but i'm not so sure that is a usps issue...
SFC01v2
01-09-2004, 11:48 PM
So anywhere from 1 to 4 weeks then, assuming by 31 jan you meant 31 Dec!
twilightprotege
01-10-2004, 02:47 AM
oh yeah, 31 dec....
i think it all comes down to when planes leave etc...might get lucky and a plane leaves the next day...or we might miss one and have to wait a week or something
ahb11m
01-11-2004, 06:42 PM
yeah, i'm gonna make a crazy guess and assume they went by surface mail (your cam gears)
airmail is good, but can be unpredictable, but surface mail is much the same... just time between shipments is greater
twilightprotege
01-11-2004, 06:48 PM
yeah if they were sent surface i'm going to ask for a refund because i specified air and paid for air.
ahb11m
01-11-2004, 06:56 PM
yeah.... well they wouldn't negotiate with me on even using usps.... i had to use ups, and had to pay a fortune, so i never bothered to fix up my corner indicators
twilightprotege
01-11-2004, 07:01 PM

Andy is it too late TWM just got back to me by email i need to order a diffrent shifter here is the email that has the part No
Hi Billy,
The shoulder that holds up the shift boot on the Protege 5 is set higher than that of the MP3/Mazdaspeed. We have a shifter specifically for the MP3 which has a longer section above the shoulder.
Just make a note in the group buy that your part should be part # MP30103SA.
Thanks,

will check with the supplier, but should be ok.
all - just got an email from the company that's supplying the shifters - there's a bit of a backlog @ TWM and they wont get them all in to their shop for 1-2 weeks (waiting on 4 they said), then 1-2 weeks to get here :(

So Andy will you get back to me with what they say about the MP3 stick as i realy like the MP3 knob.
It will sit about 3/4inch lower then the stock knob as the threads are all the way up the top of the knob compared to the bottom like the stocky.

boys and....urrr...boys.
kartboy bushings have arrived this morning. shifters havent been sent yet because the company we're going through still dont have their most recent shipment from TWM (should be early this week though).
so i can post the bushings to yowl now if you like, give them to you at the newcastle cruise or post them with your shifter later. just let me know what you'd like to do.

twilightprotege
01-19-2004, 04:10 PM
monday night drinkies huh??? LOL hell even i'm not that bad...mind you i had an excuse...working on me car.
so here's the news - cam gears installed. no problem with installation (i'm a legend mechanic remember hehehe). idle good. i let the engine warm up and there's a lil problem. the cam gear is rubbing the exhaust cam sensor. i dont think it's a problem (will just file off the small part where it's rubbing), but i'm just going to check to see if that will be ok first...
other than that - i'm almost set for the newthingie cruise (yippy)
ahb11m
01-20-2004, 03:11 AM
haha, yer just sort out your exhaust before you come down!!!
gee damn off topic posts... this is the short shifter!!! some one should report you to the mod....oh wait
:p
by the way what does that sensor actually do?? apart from stall the car when disconnected!!!
yay, any word on the shiters themselves?
twilightprotege
01-20-2004, 07:14 AM
shifters should be sent to us anytime now...maybe even tonight. as soon as i know i'll let everyone know.
ot - my cam gears work a treat :D i likey!!!! ; also exhaust - that's the feb/march project ;)
btw - i installed my kartboy shifter bushings. good improvement there. the shifter is much more precise. lost a real lot of it's spunginess

Was the shifter noticeably sloppy prior to the bushing install, or is it a more relative thing, e.g. it is tight now, but earlier...

relative. very tight now. very little movement....with the shifter there will be even less "play"

mascot eh? international dometic? where?? my little sister works there on and off...... NSW tourism, visitors centre thingy, just near customs.... i'll chat to her about her next shifts etc....
otherwise rockdale is a really easy one, me and my gf could come for a drivey down there.... we get bored, and just drive, nelsons bay is our best, followed by ulladulla (although forced)... anyway you get my drift that i don't care about klicks on ma car
anyway have you got your roster yet??
twilightprotege
01-21-2004, 05:45 PM
bit more on the shifters - i've just requested them to be sent in two separate boxes. it'll cost us very slightly more, but looks to be the best way to avoid duties and gst. their site says we dont pay duties and gst on purchases less than $1000, but that doesnt apply to good forming part of a bulk order....fingers crossed!

ok - new news.
heard back from the supplier for the shifters...still waiting on the remainder to come from TWM. they said it should be any day now.
now second bit of news. they can definately send the shifters in two lots. no worries at all, but the down side of that is they only visit usps 2-3 times per month, so it might be 2-3 weeks between the first and second shipment. what do you guys reckon? go this way and we almost definately avoid import duties? what about who gets the shifters from the first shipment and who has to wait?
i was thinking for sh!ts and giggles at the newy meet we could play a stupid game and the winners get the first shipment, and the big L's can get the 2nd lot...waddia think?
you know i'd be happy if it were the fastest cars get the goodies first ;) LOL

and for when you get the shifter :

ahb11m
02-02-2004, 08:44 AM
haha, i did the shifter bushings already!!! i did need a 14mm spanner, and also a convincer, to knock the ring spanner around.... worked easily... of course if yours is stuck, you could also try WD40
did it this morning, and then went to work, coz i forgot to do my timeslip... was thrown a package, so i did that tonight, and finished (including working out new rattle-must tighten all bolts) started at 5, finished at 11, with 4.5 hours work....
ahb11m
02-02-2004, 09:39 AM
oh yeah on topic and stuff....
love the bushings, makes gearing much more confident, and pescise... harder to miss gates too!!
after i got under the car, and realised that bar was fixed to the gearbox (ie doesn't move?) i didn't think it could do anything...ad to be honest i don't know how it does!!! but it does, so i no complain, hoorah for jumping on this one.... luckily i have a trolley jack to cope with this now, otherwise i'd need to lose weight!!! (lets face it i'm already a long white streak of pelican shit)
btw are we able to make furthere savings, by sending out a couple of shifters together, eg if anyone is near anyone?? i'm on NSW central coast...... work hornsby... does that work??
twilightprotege

twilightprotege
02-11-2004, 01:00 AM
yes it was home....but....i received a letter in the mail...
for this first lot of shifters : duties & gst : $223.75. friggen hell. i'll scan the bill so you all know i'm not BS'ing you. this is the first time i've ever had to pay duties. damn peeved.
i called up the customs and asked them about the $1000 import duty limit and you dont have to pay duties...they said (and i went back to read the customs website and they are right), under $1000 you dont have to lodge a formal customs import form and they work out duties off the invoice enclosed on the package. the dont charge duties and gst if the total duties is less than $50 (apx $330aud).
at the moment i wont send the shifters out. will wait to see what the 2nd lot of shifters brings and then i'll let you all know what the costs are.
not happy jan !!!!!!!

and we all thought this GB was going so smoothly. let's hope that the next batch doesn't require andrew to pay more or else our extra payments (only round 20$ more now) will increase (to maybe 40$).

i didnt bother argueing with the customs ppl. afterall it's like talking to a brick wall so i just paid it and grumbled.
fingers crossed the next lot wont have any customs....i still cant beleive i had to pay duties!!! i imported $800usd worth of stuff a while ago when the dollar was 50us cents and i didnt have to pay a cent!!!! maybe they just random check these things and we were unlucky this time ????

yes there was friggen customs again...but not as much this time (the tossers didnt take into a/c postage like they did last time). they must have got the amount of the items from the insurance amount
anyway, this lot was $172.80, totalling $395.55.
so that works out to be $36.05 ea (11 ppl)
so everyone, pls pay $29.05 into my a/c ($36.05 less the $7 refund) and i'll send off your shifter (and bushings for those that dont have that yet). if you dont have my a/c just email me at katsuro@tpg.com.au and i'll send it to you.
atleast now everyone will be in short shifting heaven ;) LOL

I have just seen this thread. If you happen to end up with a spare shifter and bushings I will probably be keen to grab it. I am in New Zealand and have no probs paying the shipping. How much did you get the gear for - out of curiousity?

sent to everyone in oz it worked out to be around $229 (inc duties). there wont be any spare because everyone paid for the shifters upfront unfortunately, but email www.ptuning.com (http://www.ptuning.com) and let them know you i (andrew bode aka twilightprotege) referred you and they might be able to do a deal for you
