Hey guys i was just wondering what differences there are between the U.S. HiBoost Kit and the Aussie-Streetdreams HiBoost Kit. I am probably less than a week away from ordering the kit and want to know whih one to buy. I also don't understand the price difference. StreetDreams is more expensive by 2'500 and i am just trying to find out why???

that also includes HKS SSQ and Haltech Computer plus shipping from HiBoost in U.S.

I've never heard of the A-S HiBoost kit... Is if from the same HiBoost that makes the U.S. sold turb kit? URL?

Streetdreams should be the authorized distributors which will include an exagerated shipping charge from the States. Thats my opinion.

that was my opinion too pirana (loved your yellow p5 with redback down side). pity it's so much to get turbo into our car down under. hmm - not just yet.
birdy85 - you gonna go through streetdreams or?

as i said it cost 6000 from hiboost including boost controller and HKS BOV and shipping. But streetdreams is 8500. without boost controller and hks BOV. I will deffinatley get the HiBoost U.S one because it is cheaper. That is why i am trying to find out if there is any reason why streetdreams is so much more

birdy85

also the exchange rate is at 76 U.S cents so that is why the hiboost is cheap.

i live in AUS. The Hiboost kit from u.s is 6000 AUD with those options and the StreetDreams is 8500AUD. I am trying to find out if the kit has been altered in anyway. Otherwise i cannot see any reason why streetdreams would charge so much

I do not know if this helps but S/D also do different mapping for the aussie kits as they are way to rich from the states.
So how much will it cost for some body to do the mapping for you ?
Hey and hiboost was going to change the intake hose so it did not go over the rocker cover have they done that yet ?
Have put my Hiboost plan on the back burner as just got myself a second morgage in Darwin

The Street Dreams version includes an E6K as opposed to H10 haltech and a fair bit of programming to suit our cars.

The HiBoost kit "out of the box" needs work for use here.

There are also small development details such as some new bracketry as our radiator is 3mm thicker than a P5 and some things don't quite fit.

You might also negotiate a lower price (dunno) as I know the costing was done when the exchange rate was quite a bit lower, like 66c, not 76c.

I've been there and seen the boys, Doug and Pete and gone for a run in the car.

It DOES go hard.....

yeah the piping is different, as well, doug was showing me... he said that the power steering pump, and a/c stuff are in slightly different locations, but they get in the way, they also get the piping fabricated locally.... is therefore a custom job

The mapping for the Australian P5 with the 2.0 FS engine might be a little rich because it has a higher compression ratio (9.7:1) compared to the US of 9.1:1.

We will work on that to provide a better mapping for those kits.
Also kit to Australia are being shipped with a bit longer hose connectors to make it easier to install if there are some differences which should be minor.

The only thing Doug told me it didn't fit is the air filter bracket which is not a big deal. Anyone could make the right one to fit and they want, they can send it back to us and we will jig it to include the right one for future customers.

We should have the new path intake soon, which will be sent for free when it is ready to all the hguys who order our kit now.
Also a thicker head gasket is available upon request to lower the compression ratio and run more boost with the stock mapping. It is cheaper to get the gasket than the E6X unless you want higher boost. But then you need internals to run over 10 psi.

I'm getting confused about the compression ratio in the Aussie model. The Aussie P5 uses 9.7:1 compression ratio. If i wanted to do about 12psi of boost would i need to increase the CR or decrease it.

The higher the boost the lower the compression ratio you need for your engine. I would go to 9.1 to 1 or even 8.5 to 1 compression ratio to run 15 psi safely. If you change the pistons, you should also go with forged rods. The rods are the weak part in the FS engine. The stock rods will take 10 psi safely, maybe 13. Above that, I recommed going to forged rods to be in the safe side. Once you have the rods, 20 psi and high octane fuel, 300WHP is easy to get and enjoy in the protege.

Juan,

Do you sell the pistons and forged rods? If not who would be the best to ask. Keep in mind that i am in Australia, so it would be someone who ships internationally.

Thanks
Bora

Juan:

I believe you were doing some custom job on the stock piston, making them go 8.5:1 on compression and some ceramic coat....how much does that little job cost for us?

2nd question:

Did you manage to use the stock piston on the pauter rod?

TDK

If i was to use the 9.1:1 could i just get the US OEM 9.1:1 piston and replace my AUS OEM 9.7:1 piston

twilightprotege
02-08-2004, 12:24 AM
you could do that....and then you could sell the higher comp pistons to the yanks and get some money back :D

Does anyone know where i can get the 9.1:1 pistons. I'm guessing no one in Australia would have them. Can i order them over the net?

If you really really really need them, ask Juan or order them from Mazdastuff.com or Mazdaformance.com

Or I may pull them from my spare engine if its too important for you. :D

Thanks igdrasil. I'll try the other places you reccomended first and if they don't work out would you be interested in selling me your spare set.

Thanks,
Bora

well i can tell you the reason that the price is $8500 is:

- original price was set to cover all ups and downs of the market
- original price was also set when the dollar was lower
- new computer is required
- new maps are required
- quite a few ods and ends are different

the kits ships with and e6x with preloaded maps.
the price is negotiable depending on market conditions, so why not give us a call and have a chat.My mobile number is 0415 499 689
