Must do's in Australia

In about 7 weeks I'll be headed to Melbourne for about 10 weeks, 8 of which must be spent in Melbourne and the rest I have free. I'll be working for the Australian Bureau of Statistics, so I get weekends off. So between weekends and time off, what should I definitely do? We were thinking of going to Sydney for a few days, and a possible trip to New Zealand or up north to the Great Barrier Reef. Any suggestions?

mate i have gone traveling in my protege all around australia... its a shame that it is the wet season cause i would have suggested to go up through SA up to the NT... go and see ularu, the ulga's then head up and travel across the mcdonnal ranges near Alice springs then head up and see the Devil marbles, then go up to and around darwin... there is so many beautiful places up there but it is the wet season and you might get caught in flash flooding.... :(

if ya want to have a good time come up here to QLD... there is so much to do around the gold coast - Brisbane - sunshine coast and if you have enough time go over to fraiser island and do the barrier reef

yer you might be alright... if its right at the end of the wet season you are going to see some mazdanificant places up towards darwin and that... i went up at the end of the dry season and every thing was dead....

Well since you are in melbourne do a night tour of melbourne gaol(jail in US) its a must.Darwin man just got back one wild place i go there all the time it may kill a yank better stay away from there.
Wet season love it best time to go if you are thinking of going to Darwin let me know i will give you some great must see places.
But you must love the great out doors or Darwin is not the place for you.If the crocks don't kill you maybe the Box jelly fish will the only living creature that can kill a man in 3min flat or the many deadly snakes to many to list.
New zealand have been there three times MTB riding love it 2nd best country in the world but one problem to many Kiwi people fucked in the head most of them.

Why not catch up with the Melbourne folks from AstinaGT.com when you are there (Astina = Protege, more or less) and get them to take you for a cruise on the wrong side of the road :) ?
