View Full Version : how does the BP take nitrous...?
Ive been all over (erdt-club protege) asking ppl how the BP takes to nitrous but never reeally got any solid answers...or stories. So im just curoius to see who and how much nitrous ppl are runnin..and results and what system they are using..... (uhm)

Well, there's one Miata guy running 10psi AND a 75 shot of nitrous. (242whp) I see no reason the BP couldn't handle a 150 shot....

a 150 shot will make for a cool explosion, do it and take pics!

Staged direct port.......
It's not about how much power you make, it's about the torque. The BP can handle 300lb/ft, so it can handle a 150 shot.
Ive been all around, askin forums, this is as much talk ive got about it. I mean the motor isbuilt for boost, i dont see why it cant handle a good amount of nitrous with the appopriate setup...well we will see what happens...:)

For the money it'll take to run a good staged, direct port set-up(which you would probably want computer controlled for safety), you could get a turbo.
yadda yadda, i know i want turbo but i want to try a different route with the bp..if it doesnt work out..than boost it is!!

Go for it man. With a turbo, it's on all the time. You lose reliability over time, heat issues, gas milage. You can turn the nitrous off, and if you do it right, you can completely hide it. Ask some poor sucker if he wants to race, and show him under your hood......
I'm going the NA route with my BP, just because no-one does it. I'm yet to see some serious nitrous in a BP..so go for it...

BP's love nitrous. They long for it.....crave it.
Its like crack. My BP'd miata went through nearly a bottle a week for about 8 months before I wrecked it. No it was not related to the nitrous or racing or the fast n furious.
Oh yeah and I started with a 60 shot single wet and bumped up to a 75 about a month after.

since the bp and fp are essentially different because of different heads, i wonder if it shares the same nitrous loving characteristics. i know that the FS will die i think because of its stroke, so i dont see how an FP would blow up like an FS under like a 50 shot. i dont think that anyone has ever put an FP on the bottle so your input is appreciated.

Well, the FS has relatively short rods, but they are still weak. So the FP with a longer rod, might be a weaker rod. Replace the rod and bearings, and it'll do just fine, since it has a forged cranks, and is pretty strong other than the rods....
i need another car before i get into serious mods..But im liking the nitrous idea alot.

I thought we were talking about the BP?
The FP is an entirely different motor.

I have been shooting Nitrous on my stock civic before and never had problems with it.
I only hear a couple of people that has 'em but not on a protege or 323. BOOSTIN, you said u use to run 60 shots and then 75? did you have to upgrade ur fuel system ie. press. regulator, inj. etc... I know on a honda sohc vtec 60 is just right 75 is pushing it. This is stock internal.
I've been wanting to buy a nitrous kit for my BP/323 but i'm kinda of scared to risk it because of the hassle if something goes wrong. I'm 100% sure the bp can stand the nitrous since its made for turbo y can't it stand Nitrous. I'm planning on getting a single fogger wet system but i dont know what brand. I use to have the NOS and it kinda sucked after a year shits starting to brake (nos parts). I want something that'll last me atleast a good 2 years w/ no problems. Anyone got any i deal whats the best kit out there??

let me bring this thread back to life...
I finally bought a nitrous kit for cheap. I got NOS wet system single fogger 50 shots. The car runs great. I want to bump it to 75 but im still doing more research about that I kinda dont want shit to blow in pieces. Do you really think the 75 shots will be OK on my stock BP motor?

Was that you on the Miata board?

The motor itself will handle the 75 shot.
At least mine did. I see no reason why any other block wouldn't hold it. The motor is rather robust and will take quite a bit of abuse.
You should upgrade the fuel system.
At least go with a inline pump but your better off with an in tank. @ 75 you are pushing it. I had actually used the fm link ecu by the time I jumped to 75.

I am now using 60 shots w/ a bottle warmer. I want to push it to 70 but my engine started leaking out oil all over the place to I have to worry about that...

mmm nos i have been thinking of using it to help with the times on my gtr familia (12's) but i'm not sure how it would work on a turbo car , since essentially you need the exhaust system to be able to flow the suddenly extra flow of gases from the engine, and with a turbo you would need skinnier exhaust runners for the higher velocity and the gas flow has a higher restriction, as well as the larger waste gate to accomedate the extra flow , inlet would not be affected since it is the gas that is going in already and combusting , thus making another 75hp of flow to get rid of.

you could get an electric exhaust cutout that activates when you hit boost. It will get rid of alot of backpressure, especially if you already have a nice downpipe and exhaust. They are not very expensive either.

You could use an RPM switch, set at the RPM where you make full boost.
