Another P5 doesn't bite the dust.

The P5 dodged a bullet yesterday because my wife was driving the Legacy wagon when the geezer rear ended her. She was at full stop, waiting to make a left turn, foot on the brake and the turn signal going, and the guy plowed into her without even slowing down. The wife is fine, she's just a little sore. The Subaru was not so lucky. From the amount of damage I think he must have been going around 35 when he hit. It mashed in the back of the wagon almost to the rear wheels, shattered the passenger side rear window, jammed both rear doors shut, and buckled the car visibly at the roof. The impact relocated the garage door opener from the passenger side sun visor to the back of the cargo area. Most likely the car will be written off. What a waste of a single owner low mileage Subie wagon! No pics - we didn't have a camera with us, and the car is now in the insurance company lot somewhere on the other side of LA.

The guy who hit her complained of chest pains, probably because the air bag went off, and was transported straight to the hospital without anyone, including the police, getting his name at the scene. They had to pry his doors open since they were jammed shut. The wife says he was at least in his late 70's, and wasn't cut up or anything. Little wonder his chest hurt, what with the pressure the airbag and seatbelt must have put on him. I didn't get to the accident until half an hour after it happened. When I arrived his late model red sedan, possibly a Camry, was just driving off on the tow truck. The front was a wreck but it didn't look too bad from the front wheels back, except it must have been bent a bit since the doors had jammed.

Anyway, I think the geezer will probably be OK, and it looks like my wife will be too, but it was probably a good thing she was driving the tanklike Subie and not the more lightly built P5.

Damn man. Glad to hear that your wife is ok. Sorry to hear about the Subie. Hopefully they give you a good amount for it and don't try to dick you.

You'd be surprised at how well the P5 stands up to rear impact. I've seen a couple pictures and it can hold it's own. I agree though that it's better that she was in the Subie.

Good luck with everything and make sure that the wife at least gets checked out for any hidden injuries that might prop up later.

Check my signature below.

That's a 40 mph impact with my P5 sitting completely still when he hit me.

We replaced the Legacy with a 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid. That HCH has two great features:

1. 45 mpg.
2. After driving it, the P5 feels really fast!
