zoom zoom Boom????
Why do i keep hearing about people blowing there motor up. Per talking to ken he said that anything over 350hp will need rods, so i done see any reason other then people going crazy and not upgrading to forged internals.
can anyone else explain this?

Reasons for Booming:
Adding numerous mods that the ECU doesn't know what to do with. Not having any EMS for the mods, no tune or a bad tune. Upping the boost too much, weak internals. Driving "energetically" with all the above. Not being knowledgeable about your car's capabilities and needs. Thinking you don't need to build your car, so the build is not considered until the boom actually happens. |

My friend blow his speed 6 up because of a fuel pump but every thing else she told you already and somebody said something about boosting under 3k on the forums somewhere.

Jeez, just do the math, there's 10,000 Speeds a year in the US, There are ~30 "registered" blowups on that other Mazda site, FROM ALL CAUSES, That's 1 in 1000 from every kind of idiocy this car is heir to.
I think NASIOC has over 80 blowups recorded on their site for just the 08 Gen WRX. Sucks to be one of the 1 in a thousand but, the chances of you blowing up are pretty slight, especially if you're somewhat smart about how you do things.

Number one reason for killing engines...
It's all a matter of Timing...
Having INTENTIONALLY killed 5 (that's right FIVE) 1.6 liter crate motors, fresh from Mazda Motorsports, while developing the Super Spec Miata specifications, I can tell you without a doubt the number one killer of engines is TOO MUCH TIMING under load. Guaranteed detonation! Blows the ring lands to pieces everytime. The number TWO cause- running out of fuel under boost- grenades spark plug insulators which chew up cylinders and valves seats. Yes we did all this on purpose to "find" the limits of reliability. Absolutely abused these motors and am thoroughly impressed with just how much they tolerate |
